Do you want to drive your own Mercedes-Benz, or would you prefer to turn the wheel over to the Autonomous Driving capabilities in your vehicle? Mercedes-Benz has had Autonomous Driving for some time in their E-Class, but it is beginning to spread throughout the lineup. The next Mercedes-Benz S Class will feature “Level 3” Autonoumous Driving technology as soon as in the 2020 model. We don’t have any photos yet, but wouldn’t this be nice to see for the interior of the new S-Class (below pictured is the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Sedan).
Daimler is taking a dual track approach when it comes to self-driving technology. On the one hand it is evolving its Level 2 hands-off assistance systems to the point where a driver no longer has to monitor the road at all times. On the other, it is working together with Robert Bosch to develop a fully autonomous vehicle for mobility service providers operating robotaxi fleets.
So, the question arises as to how far do we let technology go? We already have so much automation in our homes between robo vacuums to drones delivering parcels to our front door. We’ve had cruise control for many years and we still hear people stating they prefer to drive their vehicles on their own, regulating the speed because they are always concerned something may happen and the technology will fail. Seriously, cruise control has been around for how many years? It was actually invented in 1948 by Ralph Teetor – See article.

They were nervous at first, but once they saw our demonstration, they couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel and try. They loved it! Once upon a time people were concerned about Microwave ovens and remote controlled TV’s, and now they couldn’t imagine their lives without these conveniences. Will this be the same, or will people still fight it like they do with the Cruise Control…
