Night View Assist
Driving at night presents many dangers that can’t be seen by the naked eye. Headlights can only see so far and human reactions can only be so quick. Animals crossing in the darkness, and people walking on the side of the road are just some of the potential hazards of driving at night.
Mercedes-Benz has developed technology to improve the safety of driving at night through a system called Night View Assist Plus. This system uses two separate infrared LED spotlights that are directed on the same pathway as the main headlight beams. The imaging is displayed either on the center console or instrument cluster depending the model of vehicle. It is displayed in greyscale and if a hazard is detected it will create a red square highlighting the potential danger.
Night View Assist Plus Range
Night View Assist Plus has an imaging range of up to 160 Meters for pedestrians and 100 Meters for large animals. The system works at speeds of over 10 km/h and shuts off when the vehicle drops below 5km/h. Infrared light can’t be viewed by the human eye so it has no effect on oncoming vehicles or pedestrians.
