The optional DISTRONIC PLUS takes traditional cruise control to a whole new level. The technology Mercedes-Benz has developed is helping change the name of safety. By utilizing DISTRONIC PLUS in any environment from stop-start traffic to highway driving, your safety is greatly increased.
Accelerating & Braking
The DISTRONIC PLUS system accelerates and brakes autonomously. Set a cruise speed and the vehicle will accelerate to the speed that you set and will automatically brake if it catches up to a vehicle in front. The system applies a maximum of 50% braking force to assure that the vehicle occupants aren’t unnecessarily moved around. If additional braking is required a warning signal appears in the instrument cluster and an audible intermittent warning is played throughout the stereo system. If you decide to pass the vehicle in front or the other vehicle changes lanes, the system will resume and accelerate to the set cruise control speed.
DISTRONIC PLUS is operated by 3 radar sensors built into the front-end of the vehicle. 2 short-range radars are located in the front bumper, and a long-range radar sits behind the radiator grille. The sensors calculate the speed difference between your vehicle and the vehicle in front, and makes adjustments to regulate the braking and acceleration of your vehicle.
